There’s a new podcast on the TWiT network called This Week in Law. Helmed by a intellectual property and technology lawyer named Denise Howell, this weekly-ish podcast examines current tech law issues. If you’re a law student interested in pursuing tech law, or just a techie who’s interested in legal issues, you should definitely check this podcast out. …
I’m not sure if it really is, but I burst out laughing when I heard it. When you’re in Ozmone Plains, leaving the Sunlit Path into after visiting the Garif village, there’s a short cutscene. At the beginning of the cutscene is an un-subtitled conversation between Vaan and Penelo which goes something like this:
Vaan: I guess it was a success.
Penelo: …

Agagooga hates iTunes and I’m not entirely sure why. Sure, iTunes isn’t perfect, but it’s still one of the better music management software products available, even if you don’t own an iPod. I’ve been actively evangelising iTunes since it got ported to Windows about three years ago. Here are some of the reasons I prefer iTunes over WinAMP, …

I watched Death Note this evening. I’ve never been a big fan of the manga: I read the one-shot way back when, and I didn’t really find it interesting enough to pursue it when it got serialised. When I heard about the movie I was rather ambivalent about it at first, but then I decided I might as well watch it to find out why it’s so popular. I watched the …
Internet Explorer 7 is the search bar, similar to that of Firefox. You can add new search engines either from the respective browsers’ search engines pages (IE7 and Firefox 2), or you can add a new search engine directly from a website that provides one. Such as mine, for instance.

There was a Firefox 2.0 release party which was planned to happen on Friday, but it didn’t happen. And now it doesn’t seem like anyone is planning a release party for Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy either. Why is Singapore so not-happening? I am a sad geek this week. Well, I’m happy to be using a new release of Ubuntu and a new version of Firefox, but I’m still …
Someone’s made a list of what he thinks are the 250 best movies made in the last 30 years. I’m not going to argue too much with his list: that’s nearly 10 movies per year which means you could reasonably include just about every major motion picture release in the last 30 years. But I will turn this into a meme/tag-type thing. Except I’m not going to …
Firefly by any means, though I certainly enjoyed the show enough to buy the DVDs for the series as well as the Serenity movie. But I know that there are legions of adoring fans out there who would like nothing more than for Joss Whedon to produce more Firefly episodes.

Firefox 2.0 has finally been released, almost exactly a year after 1.5. If you need to, you can go take a look at what’s new in 2.0 before you download it if you really have to. Apart from the visual refresh, there isn’t that much new that’s immediately apparent. The inline spell check is useful for bloggers, and the new feed handling is certainly better …
As seen on the Amazon product page for the Nintendo Wii. Am I the only one who finds this a little disturbing?

If you have a bone to pick with me, a bone of contention if you will, do so to my face. Don’t go behind my back, complaining to my friends. Don’t stay quiet and let it bottle up, so that one day I do something quite benign (in my eyes) that turns out to be the straw that breaks your camel’s back. I will remain blissfully unaware of any transgression against …
Just this afternoon, I was thinking that I needed to move out of my parents’ place, if only to increase my appreciation for my parents. Then conversation over drinks tonight turned to other parents, and their flaws, and I thought to myself that the only thing I can find fault with my parents for is that my mom almost always cooks a meal for me without telling me first, …
I find it vaguely amusing that out of all the links that showed in my Digg Friends list, the one that caught my eye was the one with a Spaceballs reference. Geekdom for the win.

Popaghandi points out that today is Catmas, the day on which any bloggers who considers themselves cool cats should post a picture of a cat on their blog. So okay, I’ll bite. I’m definitely a cool cat.
Since I’m in Pacific time now, it’s still the first Friday of October as I post this, despite the Singaporean timestamp shown on this post. So …
Last night Rhodora, one of my colleagues here who’s Filipino, took me out to San Francisco to have dinner with her and her cousins. We met them at their hotel in downtown SF, then walked about 45 minutes to Japantown where we ate some really good Japanese food. Then we walked another hour or so to Ghirardelli Square near Fisherman’s Wharf for some really good …
This is the first time Singaporeans have ever won an international screenwriting award awarded by a major institution at a tier ‘A’ international film festival. Big news for aspiring Singaporean filmmakers: you don’t have to pander to...
The hardest thing I’ve had to deal with in this new job isn’t the new work environment, the colleagues, office politics, or anything even remotely like that. The hardest thing I’ve had to deal with is being forced to use Windows XP on a daily basis again after spending so many months learning and getting used to Linux.

I’m lovin’ it. I really am. California is great, so far. The weather is fantastic at this time of the year: it’s slightly chilly, there’s almost always a cool breeze blowing, and in the day the combination of wind and sun is to die for. It gets a little cold at night, but I can still easily walk around in a thin long-sleeve tee without freezing to …
