We took a hike in the countryside while in Bali. We crossed this little, rickety bamboo bridge. Apparently, before this bridge was built, a man would wait at the river and carry people across on his back for a small fee.We walked through rice paddies on the way to the village of Tenganan in Bali. There were lots of workers in the fields as it was harvest time. Jeff and me in …

The other day I went to Funan DigitaLife Mall to pick up a new webcam. Funan is like a huge tech mall, with stores carrying all sorts of electronics, gadgets, and more. For my friends and family back in the US, imagine if Fry's Electronics broke itself up into a bunch of stores and turned into a mall. An eight story mall! I enjoy geeking out here from time to time. But …

(okay, last Bali post. I promise.)This is the Hot Dog Shop, right next to the police station in Candidasa. That man on the left with the white shirt is Gary. He and his wife Tyo run this little restaurant as well as a small homestay next door. They are two very kind and gracious people. Gary makes you feel like you're an old friend and is quick to invite you into his …

The chances are pretty good that you've never seen a dog like this before. Here in Singapore, the boys get funny looks from just about everyone that passes us by. Some people even take out their cell phones to take a photo. We're all pretty used to it by now. I haven't been able to find good grooming shears or scissors to cut their hair myself, so I decided to take them to a …

Last 5 Pings
Last weekend was one of the best weekends I've had in a long time. Partly because we bought a house (that's kind of a big deal), and partly because we had friends come into town to celebrate with. It's not everyday that Jeff and I put on our grown-up pants and do something sensible like buying a house. So of course, we had to celebrate the best way we know how: with good …

For those of you that don't follow me on Instagram*, here's some big news: Jeff and I got the keys to our new house last Friday! I'm pretty sure we set a new record for fastest house-hunting, because it only took us about a month to find it. Sometimes being impulsive can be a good thing. We didn't think we'd actually get the house when we put in our offer for it, but it's …

On Saturday, I hopped on the Light Rail to meet up with a friend at the farmers' market at San Pedro Square Market. Held every Saturday on West St. John Street (in between Almaden and San Pedro), the farmers' market is open from 10 am to 2 pm and is the perfect way to start the weekend. It's open all year round, too. I didn't buy too much this time because we're in the …

Tacos, friends, and lots of sunshine made for a perfect day this past Saturday at the San Jose Taco Festival, held at History Park. Organized by the folks who put on Movable Feast, the San Jose Taco Festival was the largest food truck event in Northern California. I had been looking forward to the event for so long that I even bought tickets for it while we were still living …

A friend of mine had some errands to run in San Francisco last week and I couldn't resist the opportunity to tag along. The weather was a little brisk, but the beautiful skies made up for it. These photos were taken along Hyde Street Pier and at Fisherman's Wharf. The weather here is starting to warm up, which means we will probably be spending more time outdoors. Our spring …
