There is nothing you can say in answer to a compliment. I have been complimented myself a great many times, and they always embarrass me as I always feel that they have not said enough. If you hear that someone is speaking ill of you, instead of trying to defend yourself you should say: "He obviously does not know me very well, since there are so many other faults he could have mentioned". So long as they don't get violent, I want to let everyone say what they wish, for I myself have always said exactly what pleased me.
