I actually didn’t realize this until today. I feel kinda outraged…Let me explain. You see, I use Apple’s iTunes on my home PC as well as my laptop at work. On my laptop, …
For those of you who like printing your photos from one of those print stations (see picture), a word of caution. If you insert a memory card/stick, do scan it for viruses when you bring it home.If possible, just use IR or bluetooth or a CD to transfer your photos. To be safer, you ...
The HP iPaq rx4240 is a thing of beauty. It’s really pleasing on the eyes. I got my unit recently and have been using it for about a month now. I’m going to try to give it a proper review, …
This is part 2 of my review of the iPaq rx4240. Unfortunately HP has recently stopped making this device. It’s bigger brother the 4500 is still on the market though, and I still see this unit being sold in most places at the same price.Anyway, in part 2 I will be reviewing the software and ...
One of my hard disks failed recently. I did what I could to recover my data before taking the HDD unit out of the PC. But instead of disposing of it, I wanted to open it up. Just to see the innards and maybe to retrieve the neodymium magnets inside. So I took out my ...
Just an update.I posted about seeing Tux, the Linux mascot, being used by a store at the Expo last year (In my May 2007 archives). There’s an article on BoingBoing yesterday about a similar thing. Apparently Tux is so adorable people are using him everywhere.
My wife has been complaining about my noisy PC for some weeks now. And I've also noticed it was getting pretty noisy. So, yesterday, I opened up my PC's case to investigate. As it turned out, it wasn't the power supply fan, but the CPU fan making almost all the noise. So I took it out and cleaned off all the dust that accumulated on it. I also wiped off the dirt from the …
I snapped another error message in a public display while I was at Vivocity. This one was at Citibank, something about a missing user key.
I mentioned before that Singaporeans are quite enamored by tech gadgets. They take to technology like fish take to water. I wasn't all too surprised at all the spending reportedly done during the PC Show 2007. But all this got me to thinking: There must be tons of consumer electronics and gadgets in all the homes in Singapore, so where do they go to die? All those electronic …
Samsung handphones can be a bit harder to customize in terms of ringtones, as they use the SMAF format. The files use the extension .mmf. For the Samsung Ultra Edition 8.4 I'm using (and I suspect others as well), the voice call ringtones can be customized using your favourite mp3 files, but the message ringtones only accept mmf files. I'm not sure why this is so, but it …

For half a year now, my wife and I have been going to a Tibet Restaurant in East Coast Road for dinner at least once a week. When the restaurant was first open, there were a number of girl …
I was taking the North East line train last night and saw this familiar looking dialog box in their display. Java.exe is warning that there is a corrupt file.I just had to take a photo.
So I went back to Kuching at the end of June. We booked the $0 but still have to pay airport tax. Also, Air Asia does not fly from Singapore so we have to separately arrange for transportation up to Senai Airport in Johor. $0 but not free after all. $$$.So what's the difference with taking Air Asia? I can only compare against Malaysian Airlines as I used to take that, until …
My family was at IKEA yesterday and we bought a small chair. When I queued up to make payment, my wife told me no plastic bags will be given out, just in case I made an ass of myself. We had to buy one for 10 cents to carry our 'some assembly required' chair. I was aware of the Bring Your Own Bag Day initiative that started in April 2007, but I was not aware at that point …
Poor hygiene can lead to disease, illness and even death. In a time when we are so concerned about bird flu, SARS etc., people should take more care of what they are doing to ensure proper hygiene practices are enforced. Let's take a look at some of the poor hygiene practices that I have discovered while I have been in Singapore.Cleaner picking rubbish from the trash binsI …
Wow! 2 posts in one month! I'm improving!Well, this post is not tech-related. But I just had to post this. This is a true story! My family and I were at the NTUC at Tiong Bahru Plaza (that's a local supermarket for those who don't know), and my wife was looking for vegetables. She suddenly got excited and called me over to look at a particular pack of leafy greens. Only after …
This is a countdown list of free alternative software that I currently have installed. Not everyone realizes that these alternative programs are available to make their computing life easier. But if you are aware, maybe you'd like to compare your list of "must-have" software against mine. I'd also like to hear what other people are using.7. The GIMP (Linux, Windows) - This is …
Before I talk about the phone I've been using for some weeks now, I just want to talk about a couple of other things.First off, regarding the installation of iPodLinux on my 5.5th generation iPod. I decided against this as the iPodLinux does not yet support the video decoding chip. There is mpeg playback capability in the cvs version but that is software playback. I even …
I’ve been using this phone with the cupcake version (1.5) for more than a month now. I’ve just upgraded the firmware via Samsung’s PC Studio this morning and couldn’t wait to post about it. The update process itself is painless, although I did have to reset the phone and reboot my laptop. Since my ...
