From Shall We Dance:All these promises that we make and we break... why is it that you think people get married? Because we need a witness to our lives. There's a billion people on the planet... I mean, what does any one life really mean? But in a marriage, you're promising to care about everything. The good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things... …

That's how much it will cost to go to space. Definitely more bragging rights than that latest Lamborghini.

The less you have, the safer you are from a crisis.

The charts above, from Bloomberg, showed a remarkable similarity in the trading patterns of various stock markets on 21 Jan 2008. Must be very interesting to academics.I'm betting 1 cent that the worst is yet to come. This financial crisis will be like the biblical Great Flood, and is meant to wipe out a lot of greed. The good thing is that everyone has a personal ark to save …

I've been having recurrent flashbacks of memories about the ex.I could be walking to the convenient store, waiting for the train to arrive, watching a DVD or something, and suddenly an image, a memory of her, will pop up and I would be left reminiscing about that particular set of memories from days gone by.A sense of emptiness would radiate down my chest to my abdomen, and …

Everywhere is a magazine by travelers, for travelers. Literally. Published contributors do get paid, as well as a free subscription... but you can't shake the feeling that it's the publisher who's gonna be laughing all the way to the bank if the magazine becomes successful.

Because I'm an anomaly in the system. I have no interest in cars, houses, sales or an obsession with making more money (but having no time to spend it). I hate materialism and crass consumerism.Because we're replacing great people with not-that-good people. Think of Rooney and Ronaldo leaving and Manchester United replacing them with players from the third division. The only …

In the best case scenario, I should have the visa stamped in my passport before the end of August.May 2009 would be the worst case scenario (ignoring the fact that the worst scenario would be having my application rejected).I would be looking to move within three months of getting the visa.

I am applying for migration.Migrating has been a wish/dream/goal of mine for the past 10+ years. It took me this long to kick start the process because I was trying to find a way to ensure a successful application, and a guarantee that I would have a job when I touched down on the other side. And I believe I have found the way.

Hi, my name is Cheeks, and I'm your nurse today.I am not a waiter, nor am I your slave. Yelling and hurling obscenities at me will not get you your pain meds any sooner than they are ordered. Nor will having your family member or entourage do the same.Threatening lawsuits and having umpteen family members camp out in the corridors or hold up the nurse's station will not get …

2008 is not going to be a happy year for most people. The recent assassination of Benazir Bhutto and the evaporation of liquidity from the financial markets in the past few months saw to that.If you don't want the year to turn nightmarish, hold off any huge financial purchases you might be planning. If you really need to buy something, don't go into debt doing it.Remember …

I just discovered that I had been doing a 40-year-old woman.During our time together, she had steadfastly refused to tell me her age despite my constant probing. I had chalked it down as one of those women and their age thingy, but now that I know the real number I'm quite flabbergasted. It's not that I'm an ageist or whatever, but truth be told she looked (and felt) closer to …

A nurse was adjusting the transport ventilator of a patient who has to be moved to another location for some scans. She was assisted by a medical officer.Suddenly, the medical officer - barely two years into the job - turned off the ventilator while it was still connected to the patient. When asked why she did that, the medical officer answered: "Oh the machine was beeping, …

The documents were sent via DHL this afternoon. ETA is Thursday morning. It took close to two weeks to get ready a particular document due to red tape in my organisation. There was also a small matter of passing an English test before the application could be started. In addition, some papers have to be certified true copies. All these created quite a hassle indeed.Barring any …

Here's something for the intelligent and discerning readers of this blog to think about. In an annual meeting, the CEO of a hospital remarked to the assembled group of employees that admission numbers were lower than the year before, and therefore they must find out why and how to increase those numbers. Nobody in the group batted an eyelid. Now, I don't know about you but I …

Melbourne's animal activists are up in arms about fish cruelty.According to The Age newspaper, the iPond (right in photo above) "acts as a speaker for an MP3 player as well as a tiny fish tank for a Siamese fighting fish." It costs A$70.iDie, says the fish?
