2008 Round UpWhat the papers will not print for a year end review. Simply brilliant.

There's no right or wrong, just the consequences of our actions.

I've been in Windy Wellies - as I like to call it - for eight days now, and the cold, strong winds + rain is rather refreshing. And this is supposed to be Spring. More evidence of global warming, surely. Did some traipsing all over the city on my first weekend last week, and also went on a LOTR day tour despite me not being a big fan. The city area is not really big, …

The email came a week after the earthquake. The recruiter asked to be linked to my network on a business networking site and mentioned that there might be a job opportunity for me.After confirming that it wasn't a spam mail, I met with the recruiter upon my return. Some questions were asked about my job scope, as well as the usual 'tell me about your strengths and …

Melbourne's animal activists are up in arms about fish cruelty.According to The Age newspaper, the iPond (right in photo above) "acts as a speaker for an MP3 player as well as a tiny fish tank for a Siamese fighting fish." It costs A$70.iDie, says the fish?

Love your kids? Then don't buy them mobile phones. According to a new research from Sweden, children and teenagers are five times more likely to get brain cancer if they use mobile phones. As an extremely late adopter of mobile phones, I guess I can say 'I told you so'. Perhaps now there will be less people questioning why I don't bring my mobile phone out with me.

A colleague treated me to this hot dog from 7-11 for lunch today. Unfortunately, the taste of the hot dog was obscured by the cheese, sauce and onion bits, but this meal was probably as American as you can get.

2008 is not going to be a happy year for most people. The recent assassination of Benazir Bhutto and the evaporation of liquidity from the financial markets in the past few months saw to that.If you don't want the year to turn nightmarish, hold off any huge financial purchases you might be planning. If you really need to buy something, don't go into debt doing it.Remember …

I just discovered that I had been doing a 40-year-old woman.During our time together, she had steadfastly refused to tell me her age despite my constant probing. I had chalked it down as one of those women and their age thingy, but now that I know the real number I'm quite flabbergasted. It's not that I'm an ageist or whatever, but truth be told she looked (and felt) closer to …

A nurse was adjusting the transport ventilator of a patient who has to be moved to another location for some scans. She was assisted by a medical officer.Suddenly, the medical officer - barely two years into the job - turned off the ventilator while it was still connected to the patient. When asked why she did that, the medical officer answered: "Oh the machine was beeping, …

One of my flat mates found a dildo in another flat mate's room a couple of weeks back.Hilarity ensued; not a day goes by without a mention of the 'Pink D' among the rest of us.Life is good when people are not so uptight.***And life is definitely good when there's no need to wear N95 masks at work, nobody panics even though there are confirmed cases of the swine flu, and …

McCain just said Palin is a "breast of fresh air". *Guffaws*

VP.
I just heard Palin gave her acceptance speech last night, and boy was I aghast. I understand she's speaking to the Republican base, but she sucked (not the kind you'd want). At the very least I would have expected some speech coaches to have gotten her to stop dragging the final "s" of a word out so long. The way the microphone is picking up sound it's very …

Just when you wonder if things would work out in the end, you receive a text that says: "I would want to spend the rest of my life lying on your tummy like I did just now..."It's simple things like these that means the most.

In between leveling a priest to 80, reading Malcolm Gladwell's 'Outliers', spending time with the significant other and getting in some runs once in a while, there isn't much time left over to do anything else, really. *** Almost everyone has an internal shadow, that side of oneself that not many see but which is there anyway. It can be about the dark thoughts you think, …

Time really flies. It's a cliche, yes, but what are cliches if not statements that remain true despite the tests of time? I'm halfway into my stay here. Classes have been good, and I'm learning lots. There have been times when a younger me would have been stressed out by the stuff I haven't learnt, but this older me - backed by experience - just take things in my stride. I …

Final status check:Registered with overseas nursing board x 2. PR visa application still being processed (after 8 months). Survived an earthquake. Volunteered for relief work during said earthquake. Paying peanuts get you monkeys, eh? The people behind this financial mess were paid tens of millions, and look at where it has gotten us. If you are greedy at heart, getting more money just makes you greedier for more. Something to think about.
