Everywhere is a magazine by travelers, for travelers. Literally. Published contributors do get paid, as well as a free subscription... but you can't shake the feeling that it's the publisher who's gonna be laughing all the way to the bank if the magazine becomes successful.
When people feel some kind of dissatisfaction, they would rather look elsewhere than within themselves to improve that satisfaction. It's like trying to improve your self-esteem by buying more shoes.Adding something extra, rather than looking to address what's standing in the way of your satisfaction now and developing that, just isn't the answer.
From today's Independent: If the external pressures to marry have declined, the inner ones remain strong. Marriage still has an enduring magic. Even in recessions a high proportion of income continues to be spent on weddings, and the fairytale elements of the veil and white dress persist across the social scale; indeed there is very little difference in how different classes …
In the UK's Telegraph today was news that Hugh Hefner has to sack a few bunnies or he will go under. No money, no honey! And to compound his misery, it seems that two of his favourite bunnies may have been cheating on him. Can't blame them really... Viagra can only do so much for a droopy manhood. It does not bring back youth.
Today is the one month anniversary of the Sichuan earthquake. At 2.28pm this afternoon, I went to a corner of the ward and observed a minute's silence. Most of the world may have pushed the disaster to the back of their minds, but I refuse to forget. How could I, when I have seen and felt so much? There were days when I wished I could return to help. Relief work can be …
My hands shook as I tore open the envelope. Tears welled up in my eyes when I read the first paragraph.Throughout the last 10 years, I've had to see people close to me accept offers from overseas, wondering when it will be my turn. Heck, even the ex got it before me.I was always the bridesmaid, never the bride. But the wait is no more. On 16th Jan 2009, the tide turned for …
Got upgraded to a junior suite on my last change of hotel. Happiness! Apparently, Snoop Dog was staying here a day before I checked in. Dang it!
I did something really uncharacteristic today. I went to a pub with my Australian and New Zealand colleagues after work, and got pretty much smashed. I'm quite surprised I'm still able to blog about it now. Drinks were on my colleagues, and I probably had more than 5 big glasses of the local beer, 3 glasses of barcardi coke or something, and some other concoction that was …
From the New York Magazine:Another headline read, “Should I leave my fiancé? … I guess I already know the answer. My boyfriend … rather fiancé, is/was employed by Lehman Brothers,” the pos …
The fantastic four? The four horse(wo)men of change? [Photo from the Dallas Morning News]. I watched Obama gave an introductory speech on his running mate, Senator Joseph Bidden. And I must say he is a great speaker, never once referring to his notes, with the right pitch and tone of voice, at the right time. Save for one embarrassing gaffe where he introduced Biden as …
I told people that I'm not worried about swine flu because I've seen the move 'Outbreak'. All we have to do is find the original monkey that had sex with the pig, then have a helicopter chase, and then we're saved. Not many were amused... But then again it takes a special kind of person to like my type of humour.
The significant other and I were wondering why a mother would not want custody of her son when his father had passed away. She: Logically, if I were the mother I would want my son back. He's my flesh and blood after all.Me: But women are illogical! She: ...The look on her face was priceless.
I just found out that the ex is getting married. It's definitely something I don't need to know. But now that I do, I don't know what to think really. One thing's for certain: She has moved on, and I'm on my way. She deserves all the happiness she can get, and I sincerely wish her all the best. May she keep to her vows this time.
Peckish for some seafood, I walked to a nearby seafood place called Shells. They had some interesting items on the menu but I settled for their 'famous' Rockin Shrimp (USD$7.99) and Shrimp Pasta (USD$7.99) - recommended to me by the waitress. The Rockin Shrimp was a great appetizer, really rocking! It was a big plate of fried shrimps with spicy 'Thai' sauce. I'm not sure …
The more things change, the more they stay the same. How do you share something with someone if they're not here? And how do they celebrate the day with you after it has passed? You can't make up for lost time.Today - of all days - I'm running on empty.Perhaps it's time I psyched myself up and prepare myself mentally for the new job.
Most people are not concerned about the health effects of handphones, but I am.And this article by The New York Times shows why.Although there are no conclusive evidence that using handphones will cause cancer, the article rightly states that this is due to a lack of studies on long term exposures. Handphones have only been widely adopted and used in the last eight years or …
Why is it that if you reject advances from a female you are called a selfish bastard, when the selfish thing would have been to devour her like a sacrificial lamb?
From dezeen design magazine, a church that has been converted into a bookshop. Now, I don't mind going to heaven if it has bookshops like this!
This is the final lap. In 5 days' time, I will be flying back to the island and into the arms of my significant other. I don't know what has happened on the island in the past few weeks, but I'm pretty sure it's more of the same. Most of the inhabitants have such a frog-in-the-well mentality that it would be a surprise to expect anything else. Incidentally, an American …
