What's up with that? This post is a reaction post based on an article I read on "An American Girl in Singapore" called Heels and Talons, by a blogger named Megan.  Megan saw a girl riding passenger on a motorcycle wearing high heels.  Megan wasn't too impressed with her fashion sense, but what caught her attention was the girl's overly long, disgusting toenails. …

On Saturday night at 7:30 PM the Christmas lights along Orchard Road were officially lit.  I wasn't there for the ceremony, as I was laid up in the house with a mild case of food poisoning, but we can't have everything right?  I decided to tough it out and get my butt up to Orchard Road on Sunday evening at least to have a look at this year's decorations.Last year …

A few months ago I was complaining that I hadn't been able to find decent pizza in Singapore, but I think that quest has finally ended. You may be thinking that Singapore has Pizza Hut, but that doesn't do it for me. Even in the US I think Pizza Hut is gross. The stuff is just too oily. You shouldn't be able to see grease dripping from your slice of pizza when you pick it …

So, what sparked my need to write about Xiaxue?  There was an incident tonight.  I'd actually wanted to put the whole thing behind me, but seeing them again just brought back all of the old anger. It was a pretty funny situation to start with actually.  We were walking up to the ATMs at the Pasir Ris MRT station.  You know, the ones down toward where the …

Even after being in Singapore for almost two years, there are still quite a few places I haven't seen, like the Jurong Bird Park for example, but I was kinda shocked to realize that there was a whole park and a whole set of shops, outlets, and stores hiding just behind the main drag (Orchard Road), along Exeter Road behind Orchard Central and 313@Somerset. Like I said in …

Last 5 Pings

I found this random bit of graffiti art on what I think is a power box for the pedestrian crossing light where the Park Connector path crosses Pasir Ris Drive 1 at Pasir Ris Town Park. I don't know what the significance is, but the word "chan" makes me think of the popular internet image boards 4chan and 2chan, where it's short for 'channel'. Or... it could be someone's …

Vicky Herman Quek Bee Lan, a 44 year old woman, was recently arrested for spiking the drinks of male targets and then robbing them, racking up a total of over 21k in stolen goods and cash between August and December of last year. This woman has a long criminal record, having been arrested for theft in 1994 and 1996 as well as serving a 6.5 year long sentence in 1999 for …

Every mall in Singapore that I've been to has a food court that is, in reality, just an indoor hawker. The same basic varieties of food are served in the same basic way. It's a very convenient way to eat, especially if you're not willing to spring for an expensive meal in a sit down restaurant. These food courts (and hawkers) in Singapore often have much better prices than …

Singapore is often hailed as a 'food heaven', and in some cases that's true, especially if you have the money to afford the 'authentic dining'. More often than not, it's impractical to constantly go to high end restaurants, so I get excited when I see cuisine from 'home' that's listed at an affordable price. It was with great excitement that I saw French Toast on the menu at …

Yesterday afternoon was a little cool out, surprisingly considering Singapore's typical weather this time of year, so my wife and I were both in the mood for something soupy. Typically, that means a trip to Manpuku for their Aoba Hokkaido Ramen, but our last visit was a little less than appealing, so we decided to try something new. There's a restaurant on the top floor of …
