What is the impact of your blogging on your company/organisation? I was pondering this question yesterday so I figured I'd try it out a little Google experiment on myself. Most of you readi …
The RSS focused start up xFruits has just introduced two very interesting products:VocalFruits, a stand alone service that does text-to-speech for your RSS feeds.Mail-to-RSS, which takes your emails and parses them as RSS feeds.Mail-to-RSS is rather novel, but Gmail already does this so no big deal if you're a Gmail user, but it would be great for any other POP account. I …
Yesterday I lay on the grass looking up at the war memorial in the middle of the city. Lovely weather, I lay in the shade on my laptop bag.
Today at PodCamp Singapore Mitch Joel of Twist Image (pictured) talked about marketeers using the social media as a platform for creating content. He gave great examples of companies creating great podcasts, and building genuine communities around real (not marketing fluff) content. The same thought crossed my mind a few months back in a slightly different way. I thought: …
I must have stepped into a time warp today while entering Bugis MRT station. I felt a weird sense of deja vu and realised I had travelled back in time a couple of months to April. The large LCD display on the train platform greeted me with a familiar movie trailer I knew I've seen somewhere. If you can't guess from my snap shot from the past above, it was the movie Fracture. …
I wrote an article on reaching out to bloggers that appeared in Marketing Magazine this month. This article was written with tip & tricks contributed by the Media Socialists. For some strange reason, the article was cut off just before it ended. Sub-editor must have been asleep.Download the page as a PDF or read the original (unedited) full-text here.
Now which would give you a better understanding? Boring textbook diagram above or facinating 3D animation with useful captions and clear voice over? Now I know why I didn't do well in school. I was born too early!Jokes aside, the juxtaposition of the two is making me re-think communication and its effectiveness in this new world of multimedia. Most of us in the communications …
Just this afternoon I twittered...There's Twitter, Velvet Puffin, now Peekamo. Social networking moving to the mobile. Making SMS a social medium. Interesting trend to watch. This this evening Mashable published a leak on Socialight, yet another mobile social network. It appears that any device with enough computing power that commands human interaction is a prime candidate for …

Here's an article in MEDIA that I commented on. My 20 minute interview ended up becoming a simple PR tip, but still good. The funny thing is that I didn't even realise the article was out until my global CEO sent it to me. I guess that's a good thing... right?Anyway, a good read and overview of the monitised Asian blogosphere. Interesting point to note: Malaysia seems to be …
I like this rendition of the future. Especially the part when copyright becomes illegal and there are no such things as ads. Maybe in the future, marketing will be about content creation and not controlled message dissemination.Imagine this, instead of a series of TV commercials, companies will spend the money to produce a feature film.Instead of hosting press conferences, PR …
Online Videos by Veoh.comThe Ruckus MetroFlex DZ is basically a super-powered WiFi receiving antenna that plugs directly into your computer's Ethernet port. The reason it's called the MetroFlex is because it is designed as a CPE to "extend" metropolitan WiFi signals and bring them into the house or premise. In this review I show how it works on Wireless@SG, Singapore's first …
Singapore-based OSIM, known best for its massage chairs, has ordered YouTube to remove its copyright ads uploaded by users. My friend and fellow blogger I.Z. Reloaded has been sent a DMCA notice to remove the clip of an OSIM iGallop ad he uploaded in January 24, 2006.I've used this particular uploaded ad in talks I've given at Hill & Knowlton and as a guest lecturer at …
On most occasions when I give out my business card to people I meet, I get a look of intrigue from them. Sometimes because of my rather unpronounceable Chinese name (don't ask), but mostly because I have two titles: "Senior Associate" and "New Media Specialist".The first is a regular PR consultant's title that denotes my "rank" within the organisation, while the other is …
Installing Ubuntu on iBook (top). Updating Ubuntu (below).Done! Only problem is that there's still no driver for Apple's AirPort hardware. This was an issue 2 years ago when I first tried this, but looks like there's still no solution. If you're wondering, I completely replaced Mac OS X (Tiger) with Ubuntu 6.10 PPC because the poor iBook was crawling. I couldn't get any work …
I'm disappointed. According to an article in PRWeek on Facebook:Ketchum, Edelman and Hill & Knowlton have put policies in place, particularly with regard to blogging. And to make things worse:Off all the agency bosses, Sally Costerton, CEO of Hill and Knowlton, was most reserved about Facebook use. She said it had been 'discussed a lot in recent management meetings due to …
Many of my clients and colleagues, based out of Singapore, often take on regional roles which requires them to travel a lot. This requirement places them on planes and hotel rooms in neighbouring countries very often, and every time the leave, the activate the dreaded triple "O" (aka Out of office) auto reply email. After years in the corporate world, I understand the role of …
This so doesn't belong on my blog. But want to know how to make every corner of your office laugh? Send them this clip!
Found this on Michael's blog. Totally awesome!Comment on Metacafe says the game is called TrackMania. Cool!
Twittervision is sweet! It gives up you to the second update from Twitter worldwide as a mashup on Google Maps. I like the way it displays the world map and how it slides from side to side. Reminds me of the Twingly screensaver. You know what will be really nice? If only we could Twitter photos taken with out mobile phones and have the text as captions. That'll be the best …
