Typing Chinese Characters

As I have a US keyboard, it wasn't immediately obvious how I would go about typing Chinese Characters. Eventually, I discovered an excellent application called OpenVanilla which allows you to type in Pinyin and it converts it to Chinese characters.Unfortunately, the documentation on the website was entirely in Chinese! I was ready to give up when I found this video tutorial from Rohan on YouTube explaining how to use it once it's installed.I've setup OpenVanilla so I can quickly switch from the US extended keyboard input to OpenVanilla input. The US extended allows me to type pinyin using the combination of Alt + a, Alt + e, Alt +v and Alt + ` to write each of the tone symbols. The OpenVanilla input allows me to type in pinyin and output Chinese characters.I should mention that there are many other options available including built-in mac support. I haven't tried any of the others and I'd love to hear any feedback you have!
