Standard Chartered's New Branch on Sixth Avenue
In the main section of today’s Straits Times, Standard Chartered ran a full-page ad in support of the opening of their new branch on the Bukit Timah Road (note the location). As luck would have it, we happened to be walking past this branch whilst the celebratory lion dance was going on inside. Needless to say, this got us thinking about the branch and the ad. First a few comments about the branch. As far as we know the “Sixth Avenue” branch has been in operation for a good couple of months by now. This begs the question, why the month-long delay between the soft and hard launches? I’m sure there are many strategic reasons behind this, but the market to which they are catering (i.e. people who either live in Bukit Timah or drive along the Bukit Timah Road going to/from work) will have been well aware of this new branch for some time now, and the delayed launch does reflect some degree of disorganisation.
