RIP Norman Borlaug

Who is Norman Borlaug, you may ask and why should you care? Why the father of the Green Revolution, no less. What was the Green Revolution? It was a scientific effort to introduce high yielding varieties of crops, combined with modern farming methods into third world countries in the 1960s and 1970s. Because of his effort, Mexico, India and Pakistan and other countries became net exporters of food, lifting millions out of poverty, saving billions from starvation. How is that for a good cause? You start from science and go into a social cause. The people who oppose GM food should think about impact of this singular individual. Someone go tell the mainstream press they missed the boat on the greatest news story. I guess an entertainer's death is more important than a Nobel winner's one.
