Ping.sg, Chain Factor and the Re-Relevance of Casual Games

The psychotic clicking that was Ping.sg's April Fool's... Event, I suppose, got me thinking of other casual games. It's interesting that video gaming started off with what we now call casual games (the seminal video game, Pong, is the very definition of casual gaming), moved on towards increasingly bigger productions with each technological advancement (the average developmental cost of a console title is currently at US$15 million), and is now returning back to "casual" as a significant genre.
