Michael Jackson Memorial Takes Over Twitter
Not surprisingly, Michael Jackson’s memorial has taken over the conversation on Twitter this afternoon. In fact, at the moment, Jackson-related tweets occupy all 10 of Twitter’s top trending topics. Aside from “MJ Memorial” and the “#michaeljackson” hashtag, users are discussing the activities of the proceedings en masse, with various performers, presenters, and the venue (Staples Center) also occupying the top slots. Twitter trend tracker Twitscoop posted this visualization of how quickly Jackson memorial-related tweets took over Twitter today: It will be interesting to see if by the end of the day, total volume at peak exceeds what we saw in the immediate aftermath of Jackson’s passing, where more than 30% of total tweets were Jackson-related.
