Mediacorp Viewers' Choice Awards 2009 - Who will you vote for?

It's that time of the year again when Mediacorp celebrates the best of the previous year's television commercials with the Viewers' Choice Awards. This is a great initiative as it encourages consumers to think critically about broadcast media and to select from a broad range of industries and advertising styles. For us, however, there are two commercials - one each from the Local and International categories - that really standout for their contagious appeal. First, for the Local category our vote goes to the "Clean and Green Singapore" ad run by the National Environment Agency (click here to view). Documenting the growth and development of one Singaporean - from young boy playing in the kampong to newlywed and then greying senior citizen - the ad is set to the infectious chorus of "Let's make our world the most beautiful home". The aging of the lead singer cleverly parallels the growth and development of Singapore, creating a nostalgic sense of pride and accountability for the sustainability of Singapore
