Learning Chinese Measure Words
It's only been a week since I've started learning Mandarin Chinese and so far my least favorite part is the use of measure words. As the name suggests, they are used to identify the quantity of something. They are not really used in the English language but they do appear in other languages such as Japanese and Korean. The best analogy I can think of in English is "a sheet of paper". In this case the word sheet is used in a similar way to a measure word.Let's start with learning some words and then learn their measure word:Apple: 苹果 (píng guǒ)Car: 车 (chē) Cat: 猫 (māo)Book: 书 (shū)Newspaper: 报纸 (bào zhī)If I want to specify the quantity such as "an apple", "a car" they need a measure word!
