A beauty contestant, who is representing the Republic in the Miss Asia Pageant in Hong Kong this year, is in the spotlight for making a controversial move to garner attention. 27-year-old Singapore permanent resident Jodi Mohd Nizam Lee, who was born in Sabah, admitted to deliberately writing two out of four Chinese characters of the greeting "Happy New Year" wrongly, in a bid to attract media attention, reported Sin Chew Daily. She told reporters that it was done intentionally so that the Hong Kong media would report about her. "I did not have to get naked or get into a fight but I still got to be on the front pages of all Hong Kong newspapers," she boasted to the Chinese newspaper, and claimed that she could actually speak fluent Mandarin.
