Japanese or singaporean?

Today, my Japanese colleague told me that she was amazed by my grasp of Japanese since I’ve been living here for almost all my life. To her, she thinks that it’s really hard to master the language well, especially for me, since my dad’s not in the country half the time.It got me thinking… is being a child from a mixed parentage good? Other than being able to master more than one language, is being a half (that’s the Japanese term used for children of mixed parentage) really better than pure?I used to get people coming up to tell me, how envious they were of me since I had a Japanese dad whose hometown is in Tokyo. I even had a friend who said she wished her dad was Japanese too. Hmm… I felt really weird at that time coz I never thought I was any different from the rest of the youths here. Sure, I’m trilingual, but there are more and more Singaporeans out there who are mastering new languages too.I have to admit, I enjoy having Japanese food on normal days – be it sushi, sashimi, tonkatsu and
