I'm a Singaporean, merely by birth

It's been almost 30 years now. A basic education, a marriage and a HDB flat later, I question myself what's ahead of me now. In an ideal world, the list shall include a car, 3 kids, a bigger flat, a promising career, at least one good holiday every year and a comfortable lifestyle for my family and I. Well that is if living here was anywhere close to ideal. However, as we are very much well aware of, life isn't as rosy as we thought it would be.I read with much interest a comment made by a 60 year old Singaporean who lamented about the sorry state of young couples nowadays. Although he mainly touched on the desperation the couples face in getting new homes, no thanks to the ludicrous prices stamped on flats, I feel there's more for us to worry about including the roof on our heads. As he mentioned, during the 70s when a graduate's salary is but a $1,000 per month, flats were still affordable as the price ranges from merely $17K to 35K max for a 5-room flat.
