I've loved history for close to 20 years, been studying it for about 15, and only truly began to understand it for about a year.Memories of secondary school textbook history still haunt me today. Memories of the teacher telling us to ask the question of the five wolves and a hunter. Who, what, when, where, why and how. It was methodical, mechanical, and dead. But they seemed logical at that time of youthful ignorance. Those questions simply helped us absorb whatever we get in the textbook, then vomit them out onto the exam scripts.It took me close to four years of university education to realise that those were the wrong questions to ask, in a way.
