Computer Modifications

Today, among other things, I upgraded my computer from Windows Vista to Windows XP. In the process, I found a new definition of pain and suffering.This wasn't your grandma's "find drivers and install them" trip, it was one of those full blown "pull out the hex editor and PCI bus monitor" ones. I found myself using basically everything I've learned about computers from spending the twenty years doing little but hacking at them (turning 25 this year - no, I have no life xD), and it still was a pain in the ass.In the end, though, the process only took about 5 man-hours, so I guess it wasn't that bad.My machine now features:- All programs and page now stored on striped SATA RAID.- Windows XP, with my normal cocktail of efficiency-based modifications.- Uxtheme patches - though I usually just use some form of Royale.- Flourishes I'd always wanted, like cute drive letters.- Hand-modified drivers for most every system component.- Dedicated solid-state memory for cache.- In other words, speed, int
