'Anti-PAP government', not 'anti-government'
I'm reproducing my comment on Yawning Bread's post because I think it's important for all of us to be educated about this. As Mr Brown has so astutely pointed out to us, the media has a lot of power in terms of how our thoughts are shaped. Hence, let's be responsible in how we use our words. Please use the term 'anti-PAP government' instead of 'anti-government' from now on. There are two reasons for my humble request: I assume most people – yourself included – use 'anti-government' to mean opposing the actions, beliefs, values, etc. carried out or held by the current government of a country. But it also holds connotations of negativity i.e. the phrase can be misinterpreted or misused to paint a picture of people who are against any form of government whatsoever. I’m sure you know how dangerous this is, especially in Singapore, where people enjoy taking words at face value.
